“Let not your hearts be troubled. Believe in God; believe also in me. In my Father’s house are many rooms. If it were not so, would I have told you that I go to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and will take you to myself, that where I am you may be also. And you know the way to where I am going.” Thomas said to him, “Lord, we do not know where you are going. How can we know the way?” Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me,” John 14:1-6, ESV.
It was a great time. The family got together at our house for a week for the holiday. We had people in every room. Cousins slept on the floor in the kids’ rooms. The grandparents were in the extra room; my son slept on the couch so his aunt had a bed. We rearranged furniture so all of us could eat together, and chairs were moved from room to room to play games, do puzzles or watch television. We looked through photo albums, took lots of pictures, and made silly faces. Moments became memories made, and there were lots of hugs and laughter—lots of laughter. Even though we were tripping over suitcases and extra chairs, we were happy to be together.
The last night we were together, I got to thinking about Heaven. No suitcases will be necessary—God will clothe us with perfect clothing, and there will be plenty of room. After all, our Heavenly Father has a mansion full of rooms! And, we will be happy, because we will be together—the great family of God—and He will wipe away every tear. We will spend eternity sharing moments and memories with our awesome Savior and Lord, and with all those who through the ages believed Jesus died for them and accepted His sacrifice in their stead.
Don’t be surprised if my earthly family still crowds into one of those rooms, just to be together, and to raise the roof with laughter. Hope to see you there too!
Thought-provoker: Have you become a member of God’s family and are you ready for the family reunion of the ages in Heaven? Take a moment to thank God if you are ready to join Him there, and if you are not, accept His offer of sacrifice for you today!
Lord, thank You that we have an eternal, heavenly family reunion coming soon, because You love us so much, and You want us all to be together with You! Amen.
