“For the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared to all men, Teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world; Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Savior Jesus Christ; Who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works.” Titus 2:11-14
Isn’t it amazing how many pages are written about how to use the buttons on a microwave? The manual comes in several languages, has a table of contents and even has diagrams and pictures! It isn’t the most exciting read—it is very technical and some of the vocabulary is unfamiliar. And yet, most of us have read the manual to our microwave so we could learn how to use the “popcorn” feature, or the timed cooking or defrost buttons properly.
What’s more amazing is that God’s Word gives us the directions for how to live. It is the manual for God’s masterpiece—life on planet earth as humans created in His image. It does come in many languages, but it is specifically written to each one of us to show us how to use the features of life. Features like forgiveness, purity, love, courage. It contains examples—diagrams and pictures of the lives of characters like David, Moses, Paul and Timothy. It is more interesting to read than the microwave manual and yet, many people use the excuses that it is too technical, the vocabulary is unfamiliar or it is boring to read. I think we can learn from the microwave that it is best to read the manual for life, written by the One who knows exactly how it should work. Otherwise, we may hit the “defrost” on our anger instead of allowing the situation to cook to perfection and be used for His honor and glory.
Thought provoker: Have you spent time today reading the manual for life written by the Creator, or are you trying to figure life out on your own? Take time to read the manual—God’s Word—before you misuse the precious masterpiece He has made in you!
Lord, please help me not only to read the life manual You have so lovingly written for me, but also to apply its principles to the life I live for Your honor and glory! Amen.
I hope you have a good, Godly day!
Tammy 🙂
I LOVE this one, Tammy. Been struggling to make the time to spend cultivating my relationship with my Counselor and Friend. Thanks for the encouragement. 🙂 Have a great day.
Kim, how are you doing with making the time? I hope you have been having wonderful, uplifting quiet times with your Counselor and Friend!!
Tammy…great devotional. It’s so funny how often people are willing though to read through “how to” manuals for the unimportant “stuff” but fail to realize that God’s Word is a blueprint for living. I love this devotional!
Thanks always for your faithfulness for all that he has called you to do.
Thanks for your encouragement, Cindie! You are right about the “blueprint for living.” He has one for each of us if we will just take the time :). I appreciate you!!
Thanks Tammy, This is down to earth talk. We can all learn from the things around us.
Thank you for your encouragement, David–and the prayers!! 🙂
